Ai Weiwei, Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn, 1995.
This piece on it’s own demonstrates what the contemporary Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei strives for in his art- to aggravate the Chinese government and the general idea of totalitarian governments.
Through his art he struggles to fight for basic human rights. He has succeeded in his attempt to pester Chinese authority; he has spent some time in jail and has have to have government’s permission to travel.
In terms of his art his persona is an essential part of his work. He has created an unique artistic language that was series, irreverent, satirical, and provoking.
